For Frank London (Frank’s Hora)
If there’s a musician I know who can make an amateur feel like a seasoned pro, and a seasoned pro recapture the wonder of their first lessons, that would be birthday boy Frank London. I’ve watched him, so many times, lift a room from florescent boredom with an unforgettable dance set without any charts (sheet music), lift up a long car ride with a must-hear recording, lift up an ordinary day on the bandstand to a cherished one. Last summer, he wrote a delicious piece for Percussia called “Essential Food Groups”.
Frank was our guest on Ljova and the Kontraband’s debut record “Mnemosyne“, but those tunes are perhaps too gloomy to share today — instead, I share for you, dear friends of Frank, a tune of mine simply called “Frank’s Hora”, recorded here during the early days of Trio Fadolín with special guests Alexandrina Boyanova and Sam Sadigursky
Refuah Shleyma, Frank! We love you. Get well and we’ll see you soon.
