Over the summer I had the great joy to score the documentary filmAn Instrumental Start: A Model for the Nation, about the Marshall L. Davis, Senior, African Heritage Cultural Arts Center in Miami, celebrating their 50th anniversary, and reuniting me with director Brian Bayerl and producer Michael Huter, with whom I worked on the film “Datuna: Portrait of America” a decade earlier. The film premiered yesterday at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts and will hopefully start a festival run in the coming months.

For this project we used a combination of string musicians from Miami and wind players from New York. I had the fortune to visit Miami for the recording sessions, Asheville NC for post production, and back to Miami for the premiere.

Grateful to be a part of this celebration of the AHCAC’s mission and impact. Special thanks to Theo Braun for being such a wonderful and patient engineer, mixer, score producer, ears and eyes on the score.

My wife came to the recording sessions; my mom came to the premiere — it’s such a blessing – I know!
