Cynhops

“Cynhops” was conceived at the White Oak Plantation in Jacksonville FL on May 27 2009, as part of my musical sketches for Aszure Barton’s dance work “Busk”. I was sharing the rehearsal room with Aszure and dancer Cindy Salgado, with whom they were exploring fast, jazzy gestures. Mimicking them at times, egging them on at another, I created “Cynhops” (it being a pun on “Cynthia Hops” or the Russian word for “Syncopations”, “Sinkopy”) initially as an improvisation, fleshing it out over several takes.

Though written for solo viola, an optional drum set part may be explored.
