Central Asian Dances (2024)

Inspired by Bela Bartók‘s beloved “Romanian Folk Dances”, Ljova’s “Central Asian Dances” is a suite comprised of folkloric melodies from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and the Bukharian Jewish community.

Ljova’s father, composer Alexander Zhurbin, was born and spent his childhood in Uzbekistan, graduating from the Tashkent Conservatory with a degree in cello, before moving to St. Petersburg and Moscow to pursue a career as composer. Ljova wanted to explore the folk music native to his father’s birthplace, the flavors and the rhythms of that part of the world.
