Address: 960 Massachusetts Ave. LJOVA makes his solo looping debut in Cambridge/Boston at The Times Two Series, paired with the acoustic quintet Fade Blue. “An all around driving-force in the New York music scene composer, arranger, and violist/violinist Ljova (Lev Zhurbin) combines jazz, Russian, classical music, and film scores to craft distinct narrative gestures and intricate textures. For Times Two will share his intimate set SoLò Ópus, featuring his fadolín (a 6-string violin) and a collection of guitar effects. Paired with Ljova’s multi-genre vibe, percussionist and synesthete, Julian Loida, collaborates with bandmates from Night Treeand Scottish harp virtuoso, Máiri Chaimbeul to form the new acoustic quintet Fade Blue. LJOVA: MOVING PIECES — Join Ljova for an adventurous evening of his music for strings, featuring an expanded ensemble with members of the PUBLIQuartet, Secret Quartet, and special guests. Ljova’s music has been performed by Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble, Louisville Orchestra, Brooklyn Rider, The Knights, A Far Cry, and many others. He is the leader of Ljova and the Kontraband, and a composer of numerous scores for film and dance. Drawing material from his recent releases Melting River, Footwork, and his upcoming release SoLò Ópus, the music gleefully defies categorization and packs an emotional wallop. More information|
